AGARTALA, June 25 (TIWN): Despite all odds the second border haat or market along the Indo-Bangla border at Tripura Kamalsagar under Sephaijala District has been readied yet again for trading on June 25, Thursday. Tension erupted after the unruliness of the concerned security forces and the custom authorities has come to the limelight during the second day trade at the haat. Incident occurred on June 18 after the unruly custom authorities along with the BSF security forces allegedly restricted a section of traders from entering the haat despite they had a vailid pass with them on the second day of the haat at Kamalasagar.

However, talking to TIWN on Wednesday the official of the Sephaijala District who is also actively engaged to the Kamalsagar Border Haat Committee said, “Everything has been settled for the third day trading at the haat.” Adding to that he said that a meeting was held considered to be a high level to undertake the stock of the situation and the disturbances erupted during the second day.

The official said, “the high level committee meeting after the incident took place had found that there were some confusions among the concerned BSF jawans and the custom authorities who were also the members of the committee.”

The rules and regulations of the haat set up at Kamalsagar were not clear to them as a result they were bound to restrict the people’s entrance into the haat on the second day. “The confusion erupted as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked between the two countries on 2010 for three years and later it was amended during the year 2012 listing out the items to be traded at the haat,” official said.

The official hoped that everything would fall in right track now and there would be no further disturbances as the concerned authorities who are also the member of the committee are now aware of their duty and the rules and regulations to be maintained at the haat, said the official.

The incident occurred on the second day of the haat at Kamalsagar had triggered a panic among the locals and the Indian traders. But, amidst the worry among the local vendors and the vendees the third day of the haat is made readied to function with a hope that no further disturbances would take place.

Earlier after the incident a highly placed source of the Sepahijala District, “An unexpected incident occurred on Thursday at the haat due to an idiotic role of one concerned custom staff Sandeep Das.” Adding to that the source said, “Mr. Das acting foolish had said the vendors that there products should be brought within the 5 meter radius from the haat, following which most of the vendors fumed.”

After setting up a border 'haat' (market) near the India-Bangladesh international border at Srinagar in South Tripura district on January 13this year bordering Madhugram village of Feni district of Bangladesh, another such market at Kamalasagar in Sipahijala district, was set up and opened from June 11 this year, but the incident occurred on last Thursday has brought a serious allegation against the concerned BSF jawans over acting on behest of the smugglers who are on a spree smuggling contraband items and other agricultural products to the neighbouring country Bangladesh.

According to the analysis and a section of locals of Kamalsagar the incident had also triggered uncertainty on the functioning of the haat whereas the haat was once considered to be one of the trading hub as a large number of vendees were expected to rush the haat both from Bangladesh as well as from Tripura. However the official source on Monday hoped that no further disturbances would be occurred at the haat in future.

During the second day of the haat only 5 vendors were found at the haat, whereas at least 15 from the Bangladesh. It is expected that the graph of the trade volume would rise in the coming days.
