KHOWAI, June 25 (TIWN): Where cross-border shooting has triggered resentment at India-Bangladesh border fencing area at Gumsing Basti, Champaknagar, under Khowai Sub-division, similarly panic gripped at Khowai Pohormura Indo-bangla border area when it was reported that some unidentified group of smugglers infiltrated in the border area at Pohormura and tried to hamper the peace and tranquility of the villages on Tuesday late night.

Reportedly, on Tuesday late night a group of Bangladseshi smugglers has entered the border by cutting down the wire fencing.

It is to be mentioned here that 10 battalion BSF jawans were in duty at the Pohormura border area. Interestingly, in presence of the Jawans; deployed in the border area, group of smugglers manage to cut the wire fence of around 2 meter distance between picket numbers of 369 to 370 and enter the area. Question arises on the negligence role of the Jawans who were deployed on duty in the border area.

The localities alleged that the smugglers have entered several houses in the village and tried to smuggle the cattle. However, due to the prompt awareness of the common public the smugglers failed to steal any cattle from the village.

The localites further alleged that the jawans fails in performing their duty in the night and most of the time they are highly dunked and does not remain in their senses to look after the security arrangement of the border area.

The Indo-Bangladesh border is highly leaky making the illegal movement of smugglers and goods a regular affair. The territory and the demographic composition of the border area make it favorable for Bangladeshis to sneak into India and also to get easily assimilated with the local masses. Along with illegal entries, migration from Bangladesh into India, especially in Tripura has primarily been driven by the mission for better economic opportunities, which is also another way to intrude into the Indian land for hampering the socio-economic movement of the country.

Locals alleged that in a broad day light the smugglers are seen exchanging arms and weapons from the national land to the land of Bangladesh in the border area. However it is mentionable that the smuggling of contraband goods includes the import of Chinese pistol, gun, live cartages, along with other arms and weapons which is openly used along side of the border area, added locals.

It has not become possible to provide fencing in all side of the border. Thus the smuggling of cattle, human trafficking, fake currency, kidnapping and thefts are quite rampant along the border as there is lack of proper security arrangements.

Localities alleged that the Police personal, BSF and concerned authority are playing the role silent viewer, only because their pockets are filled with hefty amount of bribe.

However, on Wednesday morning as a part of the responsibility of the Jawans, has visited the border area with the dog squad and has investigated the area but no action is taken so far.
