AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) commissioning for up-coming by-election has begun on Saturday in the presence of representatives of different political parties and delegates at Umakanta old building.
Altogether 80 Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) would be commissioned to conduct the up-coming by-election scheduled on June 27 next.
Speaking to TIWN, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das on Saturday said that the commissioning has been commenced under the supervision of delegate and the representatives of different political parties at 11 PM.
Enhancing about commissioning Sub-Divisional Magistrate Manik Lal Das said that observer Laima Chozah, Returning Officer (RO) Monoranjan Das along with the representatives of the different political parties were present.
As per the notification of Election Commission of India, to avoid confusion in the minds of the voters and to ensure transparency among the voters, this time the Election Commission has decided to display images of the candidates in the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) along with their symbols.
For the first time in the state this new system would be operational from June 27 by-elections. Along with Tripura, this new system would be operational in four more states- Meghalaya, Kerela, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh.
The new system would help the voters to avoid confusion about the concern candidates and would also help the voters to easily indentify the candidate.
According to the poll panel notification, the implementation of new system is compulsory. The photograph of the concern candidates should be of stamp size with white or off-white background. The photo in colour or black and white is acceptable from the concern candidate.
