Manik’s hidden agenda bites dust in Modi’s game; CBI investigation into MGNREGA scams, Chit fund scams looms large

AGARTALA, June 20 (TIWN): The reason why Narendra Modi cold shouldered Manik Sarkar in Delhi was wide exposed at the manner in which the only LF ruled state’s CM was played on by the Prime Minister on last Tuesday in the latter’s official residence of 7 Race Course Road in Delhi. Being the CM of the only left party ruled state of the country, the self-proclaimed, 'pet journalists' painted 'clean' Chief Minister of Tripura was moving ahead with his hidden agenda of playing the game of managing the Central Govt. as well as keeping his chair intact by posing as a link between the group of Congress CMs of the northeast states and the rightist BJP prime minister of the country. But the experienced Modi read the intensions of Manik Sarkar very well and reversed the game and put the CM in a fix by negating his role in the linking act. According to political analysts, Manik was trying to pose as a leader of the group of CMs of the North East and was busy in building his impression in-front of the Prime Minister. Analysts believe that Manik was trying to be a good boy in front of the PM with two objectives in mind. The first and the fore most objective is to keep CBI away from inquiry into the multi crore rupees MGNREGA scam throughout the state and the chit fund scam in the state. The second objective is to survive as the lone Left CM of the country despite all odds against the party throughout the country.

By not inviting Manik Sarkar to accompany him in the recently made Bangladesh visit, Modi gave the first signal to ambitious Manik that his ambition to become the leader of the CMs of the north east was not welcomed and the experienced PM had different idea in mind for him.

Whatever is the political compulsion that might have played in the minds of Modi leading him to come to Tripura to inaugurate the second phase of the Palatana project last year, it is a fact that the rightist BJP considers CPI-M as its enemy number one and there is no shift in the relationship between the two most ideologically opposed parties of the country.

The PMO did not give much weightage to the letter written by the Tripura CM Manik Sarkar in favour of all the CMs of the northeast and the PMO did not reply to it either. In his second attempt to convince the PM in considering the special category state status to the eight north eastern states of the country, Sarkar had sent a letter to the PMO on June 4 which made him meet the PM on last Tuesday i. e . on June 16.

Ever since the meeting on last Tuesday with PM Modi, the Marxist leader realized that his attempt to woo the prime minister did not work and his much ballooned importance in the north east politics was read well by the veteran PM and his party.

It may be mentioned here that out of the eight states of the north east, five states of Assam, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Meghalya are having Congress CMs while Nagaland is having NDA alliance NPF Chief Minister while Sikkim is having CM of regional Sikkim Sangram Parishad and Tripura is having a CPI (M) Chief Minister.

All the seven other CMs have made their representation to the PM and the PM advised them to discuss the matter of special category status in the meeting of NITI Ayog.

Meanwhile, opposition Congress’s step to stage dharna in New Delhi and meeting President Pranab Mukherjee demanding his intervention in the chit fund scam of the state may further put pressure on the Central Govt. to order CBI probe into the chit fund scam and the MGNREGA scam in the state.

Only time will say how the Central Govt. handles the state that will ultimately decide the future of only left CM of the country, feel the political analysts here.
