AGARTALA/ GANADACHERRA, June 19 (TIWN): With the lesson learned from previous year Malaria outbreak in Tripura which claimed the life of at least hundred, the state government has this year managed to eye on long term precaution to contain further Malaria outbreak.

Talking to TIWN correspondent, Gandacherra SDM Bhaskar Dasgupta said that the Central Medical team of ‘Indian Council of Malaria Research’ under the canon of Dr. H.P. Gupta from Delhi has arrived in the state and the team is looking forward for the long-term precautions to contain malaria in the interior parts of Gandecheera.

Incompetent administrators and unskilled officials of the Health and Family Welfare department of Tripura is only responsible for the great debacle which was faced by the whole state last year when the Malaria Outbreak did hit the entire state claiming life of more than hundreds and mostly infants.

Although the central visiting team from the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) had visited the affected areas from 22nd June to 27th June, 2014 and did categorically mentioned that “the outbreak became extensive mainly due to a system failure from top to bottom (ASHAs to State Health Society & beyond), as evident from the fact of lack of early warning signals which were missed in 2nd week of May, 2014 in District Dhalai;  informed and advised the state health authorities in the 2nd visit by NVBDCP team in 2 districts in the 1st week of June, 2014, delay in  DDT spray, inadequate man power due to unusual delay in recruitment of NVBDCP contractual staff and Poor monitoring & supervision mainly due to lack of mobility support”.

However, SDM Bhaskar Dasgupta said that after taking lesson from the verdict of NVBDCP, the central team from Delhi which has recently arrived in the state is mainly aiming forward for the long-time contain of the Malaria debacle in the coming days. As a part of this process, the team has also called many of the Technical assistants, expert doctors and pathological practitioners from Delhi as well as Guwahati.

Adding to that Dasgupta said, the central team has visited the most crucial areas of Gandacherra sub-division including Dolopoti, Bhogiroth, Kalyan Singh ADC village, and Ratan Nagar. It is to be mentioned that this particular places are the most crucial area and were highly affected with the malaria debacle previous year. However, the team has collected the blood sample from the people and further examination is going on with the help of Electronic Microscope. The team has also visited the hospital and examined the health conditions of the patient.

Apart from examining the blood sample, the team is mainly focusing on modifying the drug-resistant composition for fighting malaria to curve the outbreak of the disease in the long run.

Dominance of Malaria comparing to previous year is low due to timely spraying of DDTs in the houses and localities, deploy of sufficient health workers comprising of ASHA workers, MPWs and others, creating awareness among the people for adopting the safety hygiene measures, to maintain cleanliness, all this measures has slightly helped in declining the debacle of malaria in the sub-division, Dasgupta told to TIWN.
