AGARTALA, June 19 (TIWN): The Tripura High Court recently this month hearing the suo moto case has issued a notice to the government over the growing tendency of private tuition classes in government schools and colleges. The court served a notice to the chief secretary and the secretary of education department and 16 Principals of private schools where teachers were allegedly engaged in private tuition, seeking their reply by July 31. However, on Thursday a large section of students’ forum under the support of guardians and the teachers has hit the capital city Agartala voicing against the HC’s order to stop the private tuition.

Driven by money hungry teachers, a section of misguided students came down on the capital street of Agartala Durgabari road demanded not to stop the private tuition by the teachers for the sake of their quality education and for their studies would be hampered.

It is worthy to mention here that after the HC has ordered to stop the private tuition by the school teachers a section of teachers who were on a spree making a hefty profit from the tendency of the private tuition had reportedly pushed the guardians to raise voice against the court’s order and they would support them from back in this regard.

However, recently the Tripura government welcoming the decision of the court has said that the department had already issued a notification to every school teachers to stop private tuition, but interestingly the hefty profit maker teachers who are also the close aide of Melarmath office and who also back track from showing their face behind the musk has been pushing the guardians now to demand for the private tuition.

A section of guardians getting pushed from those teachers has come down to the street with their son and daughters and has been demanding for the continuation of the private tuition disagreeing to the order of the department as well as HC.

They say, ‘if the private tuition is curbed then the students would face a major trouble in their studies and they would not be able to score well in examination without the guide of the teachers.’ However, but it would be good enough to comment here that the Tripura government has been spending crores of money by giving salary to the school teachers in return of quality education at schools and colleges.

The court observed that education in both government and non-government schools has been suffering because of private tuition by the teachers. However, it is worthy to mention here that despite having a ban on private tuition by the government school teachers, the tendency has taken a toll with no departmental action against the violators.

According to the educationalists because of private tuition, meritorious poor students have been deprived of getting proper learning and guidance in the schools.

Experts say, “The child is being re-tutored during tuition and since the tuition focuses on selective syllabi, development of wholesome knowledge is not achieved. Tuition centres have become mark or grade generating factories where the student resorts to ‘reading, cramming and scoring.”

Though of course, the interim order of the HC has irked a section of school teachers and the guardians here in Tripura recently. Why not, as the negligence role of the state government here has led a large number of teachers and the guardians dependent on private tuitions.

To stop this menace of unruly teachers, cunning manipulation of education system by private tutions, its hightime Govt. arrests and dismisses corrupt, cash-hungry teachers from service.
