AGARTALA, June 14 (TIWN): Speaking at the two-day long seminar on Disaster-Migration and Management, Power, Urban Development Panchayat and transport department Manik Dey on Sunday stated that man-made destruction is leading to natural calamity.

The two-day long seminar was organized by Indian Buildings Congress at Sukanta Academy.

Forest Minister Naresh Jamatia, Health and Family welfare department Minister Badal Choudhury along with other dignitaries attended the two-day long seminar.

On the one hand, forest after forest are being cleared for illegal business and Minister  Manik Dey calls for ‘Afforestation’, planting of trees in an area where there have previously been no trees, as it can reduce the effect of climate change by cooling temperate regions, and can simultaneously minimize the threat of Earthquake in the region.   He further said that the man-made destruction is leading towards natural calamity.

He further alleged that it is necessary to generate awareness among the people and skill among the engineers and other stakeholders in the construction of building as the state of Tripura falls under the seismic Zone-V and hence there is threat of earthquakes in the region.

Speaking at the seminar, he said that the construction of the building in the state is poor and doesn’t have the capacity to resist the tremble of the earthquake and asked all the engineers to maintain the planning and design properly before constructing any building. Tripura is prone to various natural disasters, particular to Earthquake as the State is situated in the most vulnerable earthquake prone Zone-V of India and it is necessary to take the steps for preventing the zone from the tremble of earthquake.

However, addressing the seminar, Former Engineer-in-chief and secretary PWD, Tripura N.K.Dutta spoke on the different keynote issues including the threat of Earthquake, landslide, and flood. He further criticized the archaeological set up of the state including the construction of the building and urged the authority to aware the people regarding the preventing measures to be adopted during the calamity.
