AGARTALA, June 14 (TIWN): The Tripura High Court has recently directed government doctors to restrict their private practices to a maximum of three hours daily during working days, however welcoming the decision and the verdict of the HC, the Tripura Left front government has said, “It was exactly what we were thinking for the past many months to decide the fate of those doctors.” It has been said that for the sake of the poor patients of the hospital, the court has given its verdict with which the present role of the doctors and their deeds would reflect the life and the carrier of the junior doctors and the doctors of the present generation.According to the official of the state health department, the present generation doctors especially the juniors, always back track from taking responsibilities towards the patients whereas another section of junior doctors are engaged in their role towards patients whole heartedly and it is only because a section of government doctors often remain absent in the hospital run by the government and are widely engaged to private practice.

However a time has come for those doctors to skip their private practices and to attend the patients at hospitals, said the official. He said, “We welcome the decision of the HC and its verdict with which at least the deprived patients would be cured well.”

He said "The doctors were advised several times to be sincere in their hospital duties and to deliver proper service to the patients but the situation has remained the same."

The official said, “The state government has build up a very good health care infrastructure in the state especially at the remote areas and are eyeing forward to boost up the health care facilities using most advanced technologies.”

Adding to that the official said, “Still we are lacking behind in regard of the better health service across the state, but the State Government is trying hard enough to combat those vector borne diseases which are yet to be brought under control from spread.”

It was alleged that the negligence of duty on the part of senior doctors in the medical college has ruined the work culture. The emergency service of AGMC is often found run by junior doctors without any supervision from the seniors.

However, it is worthy to mention here that in the previous month the Tripura government has cracked the whip on errant doctors and served show-cause notice on 10 senior medicos of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and state's Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Friday for reported dereliction of duty.

According to the HC verdict the doctors can keep their private chambers open for a maximum of six hours daily. The HC also banned Government doctors from having any engagement with private hospitals, nursing homes and laboratories.

According to the health service rules, the government doctors can do private practice but they have been violating other restrictions stipulated in the rules, the official added.
