Khowai gang-rape case: Accused found guilty

KHOWAI, June 11 (TIWN): The District and Additional Session Judge Court on Thursday convicted 3 rape accused, who have found guilty of gang-rape of a minor girl of South Doshghoria under Sidhai Police Station.

The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment on Friday. Based on the crime committed by the convicts, the court may impose a sentence of 11 years of imprisonment or else life time imprisonment.

A total of 19-witnesses on Thursday, depose before the court, later the court recording the statements of the witness declared the accused convicted, said sources.

Altogether 3 rape accused was found guilty of gang-rape of a minor girl. District and Additional Session Judge Babul Majumder on Thursday convicted Dashuranjan Debbarma (26), Infren Debbarma (25) and Anup Debbarma (30).

Detailing about the incident, it has been said that on 21 December 2010 the rape victim along with her family (Brother and Sister-in-law) was on the way to visit ‘Tiring Fair’ at Ratanpur Tongbari J B School ground under Khowai Police Station at around 10 pm in the night.

On the way to the fair, the family was blocked by the convicted and started to beat the victim’s brother but somehow he managed to flee from the area.

Further, the convicted dragged the victim and her Sister-in-law to a Rubber garden of Ratanpur area with an intension to rape both of them. When the convicted tried to rape both of them, in the meantime, the sister-in-law managed to flee from the spot.

Soon after, the convicted gang-raped the victim and left her in the garden. In the meantime, victim’s brother came with few locals on the spot to rescue his sister and wife and grabbed Dashuranjan Debbarma from the spot.

Later on, they handed Dashuranjan Debbarma to the Police. On 22 December 2010, Malendra Debbarma registered an FIR against the convicted.

However, the District and Additional Session Judge Court will verdict on Friday.
