AGARTALA, May 28 (TIWN): Another fresh threat by the unruly auto-rickshaw drivers on Thursday has hit the overcrowded road of Agartala city severely. The new vehicles which costs little to run the batteries has always been an eyesore for the unruly auto drivers here in the state. On Thursday another fresh violence between the battery operated three wheeler tom-tom drivers and the auto-rickshaw drivers has hit the daily busy road of Battala.

Early previous year a series of clashes involving autorickshaw and the new vehicle comically designated as 'Tom-tom' had marred different parts of Agartala.

Yet again on Thursday a section of unruly auto drivers blocked the way of two tom-tom driver while they arrived here in Agartala from Chandrapur area. It was reported that the two tom-tom drivers identified as Jiban Paul and Tapas Biswas faced a severe threat by the concerned auto-rickshaw drivers at Agartala Battala area.

And later the auto drivers allegedly managed to take the tom-tom drivers at Nagerjala auto stand and blocked their way there, following which a section of tom-tom drivers has hit Nagerjala-Battala road staging a road block and demanded the police and the state govt. to bring justice over the unruly behaviour of the of the auto-rickshaw drivers.

On the other the auto drivers unnecessarily blockade the Battala-Motorstand road and also gheraud Battala Police Station.

However, but this is of course not a new story where the tom-tom drivers often faces a threat from the unruly auto drivers of the Agartala city.

Following the incident on Thursday a section of locals, businessman and passengers claimed that govt. was supposed to take the matter seriously because this is not a new incident. Often the tom-tom drivers had to face threat from the auto drivers unnecessarily. They also claimed that govt. or the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) was supposed to build syndicates for the tom-tom drivers here in Agartala city, but due to the negligence role of the state govt. here has causes several hurdles for the deprived tom-tom drivers.

Since after the tom-tom drivers started plying their vehicles here in city areas and other parts of the state, they had to become an eyesore for the auto drivers. But yet today the state govt. has failed to bring solution of it.

The clash between the auto drivers and the tom-tom drivers had started because of the passengers preferred to travel by tom-tom as it costs low saying go-by to the auto-rickshaws. Several allegations were also raised against the auto drivers of the city areas for carrying maximum passengers despite restriction imposed by the High Court.

They were also alleged for taking maximum fares from the passengers, due to which the passengers of the city areas prefers to travel either by city buses or tom-tom, a battery operated vehicles which plys here with a low costs.
