AGARTALA, May 26 (TIWN): Nazrul Smriti Mancha organizes 4 days long cultural functions and activities on the occasion of 117th Birth Anniversary of Kabi Nazrul Islam. The functions were started from May 26 and continue up to June 2.

To mark the occasion, on May 26, a programme was held at Nazrul Kalashetra including dance performance and opening songs. Minister Shahid Chowdhury had presided over the programme and Information and Cultural Affairs Minister, Bhanulal Saha remained present as Chief Guest, after that sit-and draw competition, Recitation competition, Song competition and dance competition was also organized on the same venue.

Cultural function and prize distribution programme will be scheduled on May 27 at Sukanta Academy premises where Minister Shahid Chowdhury had presided over the programme and Information and Cultural Affairs Minister will remain present.

Other activities will be organized on May 28 and June 2 highlighting the importance of poet Nazrul at various spheres of recitation, song and dance. It is to be mentioned that Nazrul’s poetry and music espoused Indo-Islamic renaissance and intense spiritual rebellion against fascism and oppression. Nazrul's impassioned activism for political and social justice earned him the title of The Rebel Poet.

 His compositions formed the Nazrul Sangeet (Music of Nazrul). Accomplishing a large body of acclaimed works through his life, he is officially recognized as the National Poet of Bangladesh and is highly commemorated and revered in India.
