3 day long seminar on literature begins at Rabindra Bhawan

AGARTALA, May 19 (TIWN): A 3 day long seminar on “literature” begins from Tuesday with Chief Minister Manik Sarkar inaugurated the programme at Agartala Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan. The seminar would continue till May 21.

After paying tribute to the martyrs who lost their life during the Bengali Language Movement in the year 1960, CM Manik Sarkar stated that literature is for the human development. He also stated that in Tripura the literary intellectuals are free to practice their art liberally and there is no boundation over anyone.

He also enhanced on the issue that the literary standards at Tripura has improved a lot and further development in expected in the coming days. He also stated that more than 300 people are engaged in writing, among them 100 writes regularly, which falls under the age bar of 30-40years. Among the people within the age bar of 25-30 writes in different language other than Bengali including kokborok, Mog, and Manipuri and other.

CM Manik Sarkar also stated every year numerous of books are published from Tripura and today there are 28-30 publishing house in the state and every year there is sale of books around Rs 50,000.

He also expressed his distress over the notion of criticizing the personnel life of Rabindra Nath Tagore in the society. 

Further he stressed on the point that it is not possible for the government to organize such literary convention regularly, but if any organizations takes initiative the government will stand along.

However, Information’s and cultural affairs minister Bhanu lal Saha remain present in the program along with the literary intellectual Selina Hussein from Bangladesh, Sopnomoy Chakraborty from West Bengal, Mukut Bhattacharjee and Paramananda Rajbongshi from Assam remain present in the program.

However, discussions on several literary issues were held keeping an eye on the development of the state.
