AGARTALA, May 19 (TIWN): The state is all set to welcome the New Governor of Tripura, Tathagata Roy here on Tuesday.

Chief Justice of High Court of Tripura Deepak Gupta would administer the oath of the newly appointed Governor of Tripura, the former BJP president of West Bengal.

Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and other ministers will remain present in the oath taking ceremony at Raj Darbar hall in Raj Bhawan. New Governor of Tripura, Tathagata Roy is scheduled to take the oath at 2:50 pm on May 20.

As per the report, New Governor of Tripura will arrive at 2.55 pm and Chief Minister alongwith other ministers will receive him. At 3.05 pm Governor will be given guard of honor.

For the smooth functioning of the oath taking ceremony and to welcome the newly appointed Governor, security were also tightened to avoid any untoward circumstances.

Born in 1945 in Kolkata, Tathagata Roy was a brilliant student and bagged the Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search award. He studied civil engineering at Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, now renamed Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology.

Tathagata Roy is an Indian politician, engineer and author. He was the president of West Bengal state unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2002 till 2006. Currently he is a member of the BJP National Executive, the party's central policy making body. Roy stood as a candidate for election to the Lok Sabha in 2009, standing in the North Kolkata constituency of West Bengal. He did not win. He stood as the BJP candidate in the (South Kolkata) parliamentary constituency for the Indian general election, 2014, earning 25.29% of the total votes polled.

 He had a distinguished academic career, having been a rank holder in the school leaving examination and a Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search Scholar. He is the eldest of three brothers, one whom is Saugata Roy, the Trinamool Congress MP.
