AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): Union Minister of State for Textile Santosh Gangwar, Textile Secretary S.K.Panda will arrive the State on May 19 to attend the inauguration programme at Nazrul Kalakhhetra for the proposed construction of textile park . The park is built at Bodhjunnagar. On May 20, at 11a.m, Central textile Minister will inaugurate the programme. Chief Minister Manik Sarkar will also be present on this occasion. It is to be mentioned here that for the construction of this park, Central Government had provided Rs. 18 crore rupees and 300 stitching machines for the park. Northeastern India's first textile park will be inaugurated in Tripura. The proposed park in Tripura is part of the 21 new textile parks to be set up under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP).The park would be set up over a period of three years on a public-private-partnership basis. A special purpose vehicle (SPV) would be formed to execute the project. The SPV would channelized funds and supervise other aspects of the ambitious project. 'The Tripura government had extended all out support for setting up of the park. It would create new opportunities in the industry-starved northeastern region. The main objective is to provide infrastructure facilities for setting up textile units in potential growth areas matching with the international social and environmental standards.

A panel of professional agencies was also set up for project identification and execution. Plans were chalked for setting up the textile parks in Special Economic Zones (SEZs), provided the special provisions of SEZs are applicable. If the parks were set up outside SEZs, then the Ministry of Commerce & Industry may pursue them, and if so desired may also declare the ITP as SEZ. Under the SITP scheme, 40 textile parks were sanctioned. The scheme attracted an investment of à¤°3500 crore generating an employment for 15,000 textile workers.

However given the fact that former Chief Secretary and present Union Textiles Secretary S.K.Panda is behind this inititive, so multiple media scrutinies are bound to happen as former Chief Secretary was involved in multiple controversies from CM-CS Book Scam, then selecting scam tainted BDO Bimal Chakraborty to translate his book One plus one into Bengali  etc. Also S.K.Panda was subjected to enquiries by Central Vigilance Commission.
