Governor PB Acharya left state, given guard of honour at Raj Bhawan

AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): Former Governer of Tripura Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya on Monday left the state after receiving a Guard of Honour at Raj Bhawan. He took oath of office and secrecy as Governor of Tripura on July 21, 2014. However, Tathagoto Ray would soon arrive here in the start to take the charge as a new incumbent Governor.

Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, born on October 8 1931 is an Indian politician. He was appointed as Governor of Nagaland after President Pranab Mukherjee accepted resignation of Tripura Governor Vakkom Purushothaman. He also took the oath as the Hon'ble Governor of Assam (additional charge) on 12 December 2014.

Chief Secretary Yashpal Singh along with DM (West) Milind Dhramrao Ramteke, Director General of Police (DGP) K Nagaraj and other officials bade farewell to P.B. Acharya after he was accorded the guard of honour at Raj Bhavan.

Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya earlier in his valuable speech mentioned that he has spent a very pleasant time with this state. Along with this he also mentioned how Tripura is wealthy for its natural resources including oil and gas.  Moreover he sent a message for the state to upgrade the Tribal culture and tribal language. He also expressed his emotions related to Tripura and added if anytime call from Tripura comes to him, he would definitely come forward for help.

P.B. Acharya was also an activist of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). P.B. Acharya became an active political worker during the Emergency in 1977 and elected as Ward President of Janata Party, Juhu, and Mumbai in 1977. In 1991, he was elected as National Executive Member, BJP, in-charge of North Eastern States of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Nagaland. P.B. Acharya was actively engaged in "My Home is India", a NGO for the tribal children from North East. Several students lived at his residence for 3 to 10 years (1969–79). Shri Acharya is widely travelled and has visited many countries like USA, Canada, Europe, Mexico, China, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.

However, Former President of BJP’s West Bengal Unit, Tathagata Roy has been appointed as the new Governor of Tripura.

A former Indian Railways Service officer, Roy holds a distinguished academic record. A Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search Scholar, he studied Civil Engineering in Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur (currently Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology). He also holds a law degree from Calcutta University. Besides, he also worked as General Manager, RITES and as Chief Engineer – Design of Metro Railways, Kolkata.
