Power line route project work from Suryamoninagar to Bangladesh Comilla tendered, says TSECL CMD S K Ray

AGARTALA, May 18 (TIWN): The proposed power transmisison line from Tripura Suryamoninagar to Bangladesh Comilla District has been tendered with the ground works for the project work has already been completed. A joint survey team from India and bangladesh held a seiries of meeting taking up the issue of the power transmisison line project. Chairman and Managing Director of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) Shyamal Kumar Roy talking to TIWN on Sunday in this regard said that no further developement has been brought yet for the proposed project which would connect Bangladesh with Tripura through a power transmisison line. He also sasid that the project has been tenderd but the preface work for the enitire project work would start soon but no specific target has been fixed yet.

India government has agreed to supply power to Bangladesh via Comilla grid from 726.6 MW combined cycle mega thermal power project at Palatana, as Government of Bangladesh is desperately in need of power. The agreement was inked during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's visit to New Delhi in January 2010.

The 47- km proposed transmission line would be starting from Central Transmission Centre at Suryamaninagar in Bishalgarh subdivision and will touch Kanchanmala before entering South Comilla of Bangladesh, said Ray.

However, the entire project work was expected to begin from December 2014, but yet today the work has drooped with no further developement to it.

According to the sources, the PGCIL officials stated that World Bank has agreed to provide a major share of Rs 8,150 Cr for improving power transmission system in six northeastern states by erecting new power transmission lines and most modern power sub-stations.

The PGCIL signed agreements with Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura for implementing project in the states with the assistance of World Bank for improvement of the existing system to reduce transmission loss and maintenance.
