AGARTALA, May 17 (TIWN): Assam Association of Tripura celebrated bengali bihu festival 2015 at Nazrul Kalashetra here on Sunday.
Deputy Speaker of Tripura Legislative assembly Pabitra Kar inagurated the programme. Speaking in the inagural session Pabitra Kar said the spirit of Bihu unites the people of Assam and instills new enthusiasm in them.
Bihu for the people of Assam is not just a seasonal festival or an event. It is a statement of life, an expression of the charm, the philosophy of living, he added. He also appealed to all citizens of the state to celebrate the festival in the spirit of unity, amity and brotherhood.
Bihu denotes a set of three different cultural festivals of Assam and celebrated by the Assamese diaspora around the world. Though they own their origins to ancient rites and practices they have taken definite urban features and have become popular festivals in urban and commercialized milieus in the recent decades. Bihu is also used to imply Bihu dance and Bihu folk songs. The Rongali Bihu or the Bohag Bihu is an important festival of Assam. The most important festivals of Assam are the Bihus, celebrated with fun in abundance by all Assamese people irrespective of caste, creed, and belief.
