AGARTALA, May 16 (TIWN): Multiple Chit fund scams under the regime of the Manik Sarkar led Left front govt. has rocked the entire state Tripura after West Bengal, the Opposition Congress leaving no stone unturned and despite a serious debacle in the recently concluded ADC elections yet again all set to push the Central govt. for a CBI probe into the scam. Accusing Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and his govt. here in Tripura of "shielding" and "benefitting" from Chit Funds / Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) under scanner for money laundering, the opposition Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman on Saturday reiterating its demand for a CBI probe into the activities of all illegal chit fund firms and chit fund groups in the state said that the congress MLAs along with the leaders and the supporters would hit the Jantar Mantar at New Delhi on mid-June this year by staging a sit-in-demonstration and protesting the ‘negligence role’ of the central govt. over issuing CBI probe into the illegal activities of the NBCs here in Tripura .However, later Barman blaming the govt. at the centre said, “The central govt. intentionally with a political motive is trying to curtain the ponzi scam of Tripura.” Adding to that barman also claimed that the central govt. has owned a strategy of “Pick & Choose”.He said inspite of providing bundles of letter and documents relevant to fraudulent activities of the NBFCs here, the central govt. has not yet responded to it and has not taken any necessary steps by issuing CBI probe in to the scam in Tripura.

Addressing a press conference here at Congress Bhawan on Saturday, Barman said Sarkar and his ministers have encouraged the poor people of the state to invest in ponzi schemes of Rose Valley, whose chairman Gautam Kundu is in custody for alleged money laundering.

"If Madan Mitra (West Bengal Transport minister) for keeping close proximity with Sarada group can be interrogated by the CBI and then arrested, and that also keeping proximity with one chit fund Sarada then why the state's Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who had been close with so many chit funds right from Rose Valley will not be interrogated?" asked Barman.

Barman reiterated that the state govt. here has lodged a total of 37 cases against 24 chit fund companies, but out of those the CBI had accepted only 5 cases. “Therefore ‘Pick and Choose’ strategy has been owned inspite of a proper investigation to the ponzi scams which has snatched handsome cash from the poor people of the state,” Barman claimed.

Sarkar, a Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) politburo member, had earlier denied his government's involvement in the Rose Valley group after Burman published photographs of the Marxist leader attending an event of the company.
