83.61% turnout in ADC polls ready to decide fate of 175 candidates on May 6

AGARTALA, May 4 (TIWN): Decks made readied for a total of 175 candidates with 7.58 voters to decide their fate on May 6 after the counting of votes casted for Tripura Tribal Council. However this year the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (ADC) election on Sunday recorded an 83.61% turnout, confirmed State election commission secretary Tamal Mazumdar on Monday. Talking to TIWN on Monday Majumder said that the security forces including Central Paramilitary Forces, BSFs, TSR and local police are deployed from the beginning of the poll and would keep strict vigil during the counting day on May 6. According to the police source, the CPMFs are keeping an eagle eye along the bordering areas of the state to restrict any untoward incidents during the poll counting. The source also confirmed that the security personnel are also keeping strict vigil in front of the strong rooms guarding the EVMs. Earlier on Sunday EC for DC S K Rakesh said “The CPMFs sanctioned by Govt. of India were only assigned for area domination and to maintain law and order situation at every nook and corner of the ADC areas.”

However, counting of votes would be done Sub-Divisional head quarters like earlier occasion. According to the notification issued by the election commissioner for District Council, the counting would take place at 8 AM on May 6 and would continue till completion.

Counting for all 28 constituencies will be taken up simultaneously, according to the notification issued.     

7.58 lakhs voters had exercised their franchise in ADC polls to elect 28 members from 175 candidates for five major parties on Sunday. The voting ended peacefully with no report of violence from anywhere, said Election Commissioner of District Council on Sunday.
