AGARTALA, April 30 (TIWN): A State level camp on sport climbing was held on Thursday at Badharghat. The 46 rock climbers from 23 subdivisions take part in the climbing. The camp was organized for five days which will end on May1st.

Recently, the camp was organized for the boys. After that girl camp will be organized. It is to be mention that the Tripura Institute of Mounteering had organized such camp every year into three stages likely as Under-13, under 15 and both men and women.

Sport climbing is a form of rock climbing that relies on permanent anchors fixed to the rock, and possibly bolts for protection. In contrast, in traditional climbing the rock is typically devoid of fixed anchors and bolts and climbers must place removable protection as they climb. Since the need to place protection is virtually eliminated, sport climbing places an emphasis on gymnastic-like ability, strength, and endurance, whereas traditional climbing emphasizes adventure, risk and self-sufficiency

The goal is to reach the summit of a formation or the endpoint of a usually pre-defined route without falling. Due to the length and extended endurance required and because accidents are more likely to happen on descent than ascent, Rock Climbers do not usually climb back down the route. It is very rare for a climber to down climb Professional Rock climbing competitions have the objectives of either completing the route in the quickest possible time or attaining the farthest point on an increasingly difficult route.
