AGARTALA, April 28 (TIWN): First ever in Tripura the construction work of the flyover here in the capital city Agartala would start very shortly with the state PWD department selected Nagarjun Construction Ltd’s bid to undertake the construction work.

According to the officials of the PWD department the PWD has accepted its’ offer to undertake Rs. 249 crore fly project. As the Nagarjun Construction Ltd’s bid among others was found lowest the department has approved the company to undertake the construction work of the fly over, which would connect Drop Gate to Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala.

Officials further said that the department has already sent the Nagarjun Construction Ltd’s offer to the government for final approval. As per the condition, the 2.3 km fly over will have to be completed by two and half years.

The fly over, which will start from Drop Gate (Fire Service office) is scheduled to touch Fire Brigade Chowmuhani via Battala. A subway of the fly over will be created upto Melarmath. As per the layout of the project, the banayan tree and the temple at Battala will be remained untouched by the fly over.

However it is worthy to be mentioned here that earlier the PWD department had shortlisted construction agencies - L&T (Larsen & Toubro), ITD Cementation Ltd., and NCP constructions Pvt. Ltd. and a pre-bid meeting was held on January 28 with them.

The first ever 2-lane flyover in the capital city will lower the traffic jam by at least 40% to 45% and it will make a smooth fast track movement of the vehicles.

The entire structure will be constructed on single-row pillars. As many as 100 pillars will cover the 2.5 km fly over. Once fly over is constructed, vehicles from the Nagerjala bus stand will continue to ply on the same path. It means the vehicles leaving Nagerjala will not be allowed to catch the fly over to avoid traffic congestion, said the officials.
