AGARTALA, April 26 (TIWN Exclusive): Border Guards of Bangladesh (BGB) has requested it’s Indian counterpart to allow border roads of Tripura to build border outposts (BOP) of BGB along Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) in Southern Bangladesh.Inspector General of BSF Tripura Frontier B N Sharma said BGB officials sought sanction of using border roads in Indian Territory for establishing some BOPs along high terrine of Chittagong in Bangladesh side. BSF also doesn’t have adequate number of BOPs in Indian side along CHT because of remoteness. A long stretch of border in eastern part of Tripura opposite to Chittagong is still remained unfenced. “Often militants strike on bordering villages and attack on the construction workers engaged in wire fencing using the uncared terrine of CHT,†Sharma stated. The establishment of BGB BOPs in CHT is believed to help India in containing militants’ movements in Tripura since most of the camps of Indian Insurgents including NLFT are located in CHT region, he added. BSF and BGB have also decided to intensify vigil along Indo-Bangladesh border ahead of Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (ADC) election slated on May 3.
Inspector General level meeting of BSF and BGB was held at Sabroom in South Tripura on Saturday. The meeting was discussed the strategy to thwart any attempt of the Militants and anti-Indian elements to disrupt the election.
Indian delegation was led by Inspector General BSF, Tripura Frontier B N Sharma while Bangladesh delegation was led by Region Commander, BGB South East Region Chittagong Brigadier General Md Habibul Karim.
The meeting emphasized on border domination in view of the forthcoming ADC election and has attached priority to curb trans-border crimes and smuggling along Tripura-Bangladesh border.
