AGARTALA, April 22 (TIWN): With the lack of public toilets across the capital city Agartala creating havoc the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) to built a total of 20 toilets for public across the corporation areas. It is worthy to be mentioned that earlier during the year 2014 the High Court of Tripura restoring the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) ordered the urban development department to built public toilets and has set a deadline.
Talking to TIWN in this regard on Wednesday AMC Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha said, “A total of 20 public toilets would be built across the entire corporation areas of the state.”
Besides, according to an official of AMC the entire work of the constriction of the toilets would be completed by six months. The official said, “Currently the work of construction is in progress in full swing, whereas some has already been built up.”
The official also said, “The total numbers of toilet lists along with the location for bulding up the toilets has already been sent to the court.”
One Soma Das, 35, a government teacher in Phulcherrri senior basic school in Kamalpur subdivision of Dhalai district, had written a letter in Bengali to Chief Justice Gupta on July 19, 2014, apprising him of the problems faced by women visitors to the state capital because of lack of adequate public toilets.
In the hearing, the Agartala Municipal Corporation authority said there was lack of space in the capital for building new toilets, and the state government advocate backed the argument.
However but the judges expressed dissatisfaction over the replies, saying they were not acceptable, as so many new buildings were coming up in the state capital.
