AGARTALA, April 21 (TIWN): Tripura will get 10Gbps (Giga bits per second) Internet Band With from Bangladesh’s submarine cable for the up gradation of the internet services of the State. Recently, in a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina agreed to supply 40 GBPS internet band to India. Among them, State will now likely to get 10GBPS. However, the tentative date to sign the agreement is not yet being finalized.

The cost of these with band will be estimated to 1.2 million dollar (7crore rupees). The band will start from landing station of Bangladesh, Cox Bazar- Chattagram-Comilla- Brahman Bariya- Akhaura-Agartala. Another line will lay to Tamabil-Shilong.

Earlier, Tripura seeks to have alternate telecom routing other than Shillong for providing better communication facilities to the people of the State. That’s why Government of Tripura tries to persue neighboring country Bangladesh to have alternate telecom routing through Akhaura in Bangladesh to Agartala as well as internet connectivity through Cox’s bazaar vigorously for improving telecommunication facilities in Tripura and other Northeastern region.

Other than that telecom connectivity needs improvement with latest equipment and technology and coverage of entire State. The present level and quality of telecom services is very poor and unsatisfactory.

Even as mobile network service continues to remain in a pathetic condition, the Government run BSNL service has failed in providing Internet service too. Prolonging its worst service in most of the areas in the District, the BSNL and other services seems to remain clueless and higher authority in Agartala remains mute. over the issue.

According to some customers, even after almost several years of poor BSNL mobile network in city, no improvement has been witnessed rather the internet service has also plunged from bad to worst of condition. Another customer complaint that, series of open letters to BSNL have been published in local newspapers and complaints lodged in the interest of the BSNL customers, but nothing has changed. Surprisingly, the present Controlling officer remains out of reach during the working days.

BSNL broadband users and other service users rued that they have to put up with poor connectivity and slow speed, particularly in rural areas. Customers said the service provider has been taking them for a ride in spite of repeated complaints. “Even after paying hefty charges for internet access, we have to keep other connections as a standby, given the unreliable service of BSNL”, alleged a user.

The problem arises because there is only one route of telecommunication through Shillong of Meghalaya. Therefore, sometimes optical fibres are cut off intentionally. And because of this the whole Tripura State cuts off with other States. However, in order to develop this hazard the Government is thinking of a better solution. So, if one route becomes inactive, others can work properly. With that the relation between Tripura-Bangladesh will also be strengthened.
