AGARTALA, April 20 (TIWN): Members of Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations (FBUA) Tripura state unit have decided to go on strike on April 21st and 22nd respectively. They are demanding the Central government and the BSNL to take immediate steps for the revival of BSNL, which is said to be facing losses since last three years.

The slogan for the upcoming strike is “Save BSNL- Save Country.” In the meantime, various conventions, road seminars, campaigns had been conducted in all over the State. About 2.5 lakhs employees would join the strike called by the Forum. BSNL sources informed that the strike conducted by the employees and officials not merely focus the benefits of the employees, but for the up gradation of the services rendered by BSNL. It may recall that the members of FBUA staged a “Parliament March” on February 25, where they placed their demands before the prime minister and the Telecom Ministry.

On the other hand, due to the strike called by (FBUA), telecom, banking and internet services in Tripura would be adversely affected by BSNL indefinite strike. Business, press, banking, trading and other service sectors would also be badly affected as the agitation would disrupt mobile, STD and ISD services.

However during the last couple of days, the BSNL broadband service is in pathetic condition across the state. The subscribers complain that, either internet speed is slow or the service does not work most of the times. They also said that despite repeated requests to the concerned officials in the town, the service has not been improved. The poor service by the major telephone service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) continues to haunt people day to day.
