AGARTALA, April 20 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar who left the state on 13th of this month to attend the 21st Party Congress of CPI(M) in Visakhapatnam is returning to the state amidst a heap of problems embarassing the party. The CM would never have expected that so many problems would gather within such a brief spell of time especially when the party was well in command throughout the state.First the REGA turmoil engulfing the entire state like a plague followed by the arrest of his blue eyed boy Jiten Das on charge of murdering his wife Kalpana Das and then the denial of the charges levelled by him against the then Commander of Tripura Sector of Assam Rifles by Brigadier B KKanwar himself. These are the burning issues which the CM will have to address immediately after arriving in the state, thinks the political analysts here. CM would also be troubled by the fact that the CBI is making all arrangements to start their operations again in the state in connection with the chit fund compnay and the frauds committed by the chit fund companies in the state.Sources in CBI says that the agency is waiting for the green signal from its top bosses to go ahead with its further investigation in Tripura.

Though the CM was briefed about these problems by party bosses in charge of the state unit,   the state unit was not having  the much confidence in dealing with the problems and the CM might show his dissatisfaction over the manner in which the problems were dealt  by the stationed leaders here during his absence.

It may be mentioned here that the entire state was burning on the issue of non payment of REGA wages on the eve of the festive season of Biju festival and the Poilabaisakhi. Many BDO offices and panchayat offices were ransacked throughout the state and the BDOs and Panchaya Secretaries and other staffs were manhandled besides road blockades in many places throughout the state. In some cases the police even resorted to firing, tear gas explosion and lathicharge to disprse the angry and frustrated REGA workers. The REGA mismanagement by the Govt. has damaged the party’s image among the people of the state especially when the TTADC election is at the door steps feels the party insiders in the state CPI(M) unit.

The CM’s alleged blue eyed boy Jiten Das was arrested on charge of murdering his wife Kalpana Das on 17th of this month, and the police is interrogating him to find out the details of the murder. Mr. Das was once considered as favourite of CM Manik Sarkar by the political analysts here for his successive patronage of the former in making him the “Zillasabhadhipati” of West District and also making him the party candidate in the Barjala assembly constituency in the 2013 Assembly election in the state. In a TV discussion on Sunday in one of the leading cable TV news channel of the state, Kalpana Das’ brother alleged that his elder sister who was the wife of CPI(M) leader Jiten Das complained to the chief minister about the illicit relationship of the latter with other women but the CM did not take any action against his blue eyed boy.

In yet another dramatic twist to the Brigadier Panwar issue which is doing the round in the state ever since the CM made the allegation in an election rally at TTADC headquarter Khumulwng on April 10, the former Brigadier refuted the allegations of the CM and said that he was not involved in any conspiracy against the CPI(M) in the TTAADC election of 2000 and that he was awrded for his jobs in Tripura as contradictory to the CPI(M)’s allegation that the Brigadier was given punishment by stopping his promotion.  Talking over telephone in a live programme of a cable TV news channel, the Brigadier further informed that for his jobs in the paramilitary force, the Govt. of India had awarded him with awards like President’s Medal, “Ati Visisht SevaMedal(AVSM)” afterwards.

The CM was allegedly involved in patronizing  the Rose Valley chit fund company leading  to the increase in people’s confidence on the chit fund companies as alleged by the opposition here.

Only time will say how Manik Sarkar addresses the burning issues engulfing the party in the state.
