AGARTALA/KHOWAI, April 20 (TIWN): In wake of general election to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) a total of 51 Indigenous People’s Front of Twipra (IPFT) voters from 25 families at Khowai Ramchandraghat on Sunday joined the ruling CPI-M.

The 51 voters from the IPFT joined the CPI-M on Sunday under the leadership of IPFT Central Committee member Pintu Debbarma. Besides, on yet another loss for the opposition congress in wake of the ADC poll a total of 54 voters from 24 families joined the CPI-M on Sunday during a campaign led by ADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Dr. Ranjit Debbarma.

Pintu Debbarma a central committee member of IPFT who joined the CPI-M on Sunday said, “The demand of Twipra land by the IPFT is a conspiracy to misguide the tribal youths to join the banned extremist group.”

Adding to that he said, “The demand of Twipra land had also disturbed a section of members in the IPFT including the members of central committee, because we find no base in such kind of Twipra land issue.”

It is to be mentioned here that recently the IPFT President N.C. Debbarma threatened the state govt. saying that his party workers and supporters know how to resist the attacks. He was addressing a rally at Ratanpur Bazar in support of candidates Chitta Ranjan Debbarma for Ramchandraghat.

Ruling CPI(M) and main opposition Congress slammed the IPFT for trying to fan unrest in the State where ‘peace has returned after two decade long insurgency and ethnic turmoil’. Even Chief Minister Manik Sarkar criticised the separatist demand.

IPFT which is known as a hardliner party and often blamed for its alleged soft stance on extremist movements is clearly trying to woo the tribal society after years of political isolation. The party or its rival, Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), an ally of Congress, hitherto failed to put any challenge to CPI(M) in tribal areas.
