TIWN

Kailashahar, April 19 (TIWN): The condition of the herbal garden at Kailashahar, under Unakoti district is getting worse day by day due to negligence of the forest department.

The forest department is not taking any proper step to make the herbal garden a useful one. No forest officials are coming forward to solve the issue. But some forest officials are engaged in looting money in the name of maintenance of herbal garden, said sources.

According to the source, around 102 kinds of herbal plants were planted in the herbal garden but due to non-monitoring of forest department only few plants are present in the garden. At present the garden has become an place for cattle fodder.

The herbal garden is also becoming a gossiping place for the anti-socials. Taking the advantage of night many illegal activities are also conducted by the anti-socials in the garden, said sources. It is to be mentioned here that, the central government is spending huge amount for herbal gardens. In the year 2012-13 a total of 17 lakh 3 thousand rupees was spent from Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) fund for the maintenance of the herbal garden. But till date the herbal garden is under key lock, said sources.
