AGARTALA / VISAKHAPATNAM, April 18 (TIWN): The Communist Party of India-Marxist has demanded that the central government immediately abandon any move to withdraw the special category status to the northeastern states and repeal Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).In a resolution passed on Friday at the ongoing 21st Congress here, the party expressed its deep concern over the continuing state of underdevelopment and backwardness in the northeastern region. Even though Chief Minister Manik Sarkar tried to wash off hands from Chit Fund dirts, but the fact is Manik Sarkar's role as 'brand ambassador' cum patronizer was a topic of discussion among many delegates in CPI-M 21st Congress meet at Visakhapatnam. Besides, another question arose in the party congress conference with the statement of Sarkar’s cabinet minister Badal Chowdhury. Chowdhury said, “State govt. was known to Rose valley as a chit fund company.” While Sarkar claimed, “It was not known to it that Rose Valley is a Chit fund company.”

And with all this it would be wise enough to comment here that CM Manik Sarkar had hurt his own image and has led the party leaders in deep depression.

It is also worthy to be claimed that operations and unearthing of such ponzi scams didn’t get much media attention in Tripura because, unlike Bengal, the state doesn’t play a pivotal role in the country’s politics.

Today at Visakhapatnam, CPI-M party feels that any move to drop special category status will have a disastrous impact on the interests of the region and its people.

It condemned the use of the draconian AFSPA. "This Act has been used for extra judicial killings and assaults on ordinary citizens, including women and children."

The party demanded urgent steps to ensure the development of vital infrastructure and connectivity for the region.

Terming as shocking the racial attacks on people from northeast residing in other parts of India, the CPI-M said they would intensify feeling of alienation.

It urged the government take appropriate steps to protect the rights of the people of the North-East in all parts of the country.
