KHOWAI, April 18 (TIWN): Rape of a twelve year old girl at Gopitilla para under Sipaihaor village of Khowai has created tension among the villagers ahead of the hill election.

According to the incident, one minor girl aged around 12 years, went out for Champahaor bazar from her village yesterday  at around 10 am. Before reaching the market area, one Gautam Tanti (22), S/O Samaresh Tanti of the same village obstructed her and forcefully took her to the nearby rubber plantation,  gagged and allegedly raped her. The girl could somehow gathered strength and reached to her house and explained everything to her father Dilip Tanti (name changed).

The girl’s father lodged an FIR (No 36/2015) in the Khowai police station against the alleged rapist Gautam Tanti. The police registered a case under  Section 376/34 of IPC and arrested the accused from his house yesterday and sent him to SDJM court here. Finding the victim a juvenile, Mou Banerjee, the SDJM, sent the alleged victim to Agartala for medical treatment on Friday and ordered 14 days’ jail custody to the accused.

Meanwhile, following the incident, tension is brewing up in the entire ADC village which is going to polls on May 3 for the TTAADC election 2015. The villagers are demanding serious punishment for the accused culprit.

It may be mentinoed here that the state police DG had claimed a decline of 18% crime rate in the state over the year. But the rate at which the crimes, especially the women related crimes are taking place in the state, the DGs claim will surely bite the dust soon.
