DM, North Tripura directs to deposit fire arms ahead of TTAADC Election: Security tightened in all major places

AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): To make the TTAADC election violence free in Tripura, the District Magistrate (DM) of North Tripura district­, Dr. Sandeep R. Rathod in an order directed to deposit the licensed fire arms to avoid any kind of violence pre­election and during the forthcoming TTAADC Election The DM directed to deposit all the fire arms and gun powder to the local police stations within April 30th, as per the Arms Act 1959.It was also mentioned in the order that strict action will be taken as per the Arms Act­ 1959 if anybody violates the order. If fire arms and gun­powder found to anybody after April 30th, then the person will be responsible as accuse and all the fire arms and gun­powder will be seized. This order will be applicable till the conclusion of the TTAADC election procedure. As per the order issued by the DM, all the fire arms will be returned after the election. This order will not be applicable for the police, CRPF, armed force and armed forest guards.On the other hand, as per the direction of District Magistrate (DM), Unakoti, ­ Mrinal Kanti Nath, the tentative date to deposit the fire­arms and gun­powder is going to be end today.

Security has been beefed up in the state ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election in the wake of terror threats from banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) which will be held on May 03. State police had started standard precautionary measures in urban and rural areas.

Deployment of security forces have been made at railway stations, motor stands, markets and crowded places, Das added. A standard alert was sounded across all police stations of the state, the IG informed. All police stations in Tripura were put on maximum alert and BSF was alerted so that no insurgent could cross the 856 km­long Indo­Bangla international border in Tripura from their hideout in Bangladesh.
