AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): Bengali New Year 1422, in Bengali popularly known as “Pahela Baishakh†celebrated in Tripura on Wednesday peacefully with various cultural and traditional programmes across capital city.
People along with the women thronged to the Lakhinarayan Bari temple at Agartala along with other places of worship wearing new clothes and costumes to pray for a happy and prosperous year ahead.
Women in traditional sarees put vermilion on the walls of temples and on each other’s forehead and pray for long life of their husband and peace and prosperity of their family.
Pahela Baishakh or the first day of the month of Baishak generally falls on 14th or 15th of April of the Georgian calendar. This year it is 1422 Bongabdo. However along with other states and countries people in Tripura had also celebrated the day wwith exchange of sweets and tasting a flavored Bengali dishes at their home.
The day is marked as a state holiday in Tripura.
Besides talking to TIWN on Thursday Traffic SP Smriti Ranjan Das said, “There is no report of any road mishaps across the state and the day passed of peacefully.” According to the police there is also no report of any major untoward incidents except minors.
