AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): To ensure border dominance, the BSF authority has pushed a plan to erect barbed wire fencing in four unfenced patches Sidhai in West district, Chilbasti in Unakoti district, Rajnagar in South district and Sonamura in Sipahijala district. A joint meeting between BSF and BGB was held recently to find an amicable solution to the proposed barbed wire fencing near Sidhai BOP which has been lying undone for the past several years.According to highly placed BSF source in the meeting, the BGB authority has agreed to the BSF proposal of single row fencing near Sidhai BOP since the area is not that much of vulnerable. And, the village will shifted 100-meter inside the fencing since there is no probation of keeping gate on the single row fencing.

“The BGB authority has assured us to send a positive recommendation to its higher ups to get it approved at the earliest”, said the BSF official. At Rajnagar area, fencing alignment still remains a contentious issue for the BSF due to objection from its Bangladesh counterpart. “We are planning to erect single row fencing instead of standard fencing at Rajnagar. The BGB officials have assured to take up the issue with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Bangladesh to get the proposal cleared as soon as possible", said the BSF official.

A total of 135 km of the bordering areas of Tripura remained unfenced yet till date, while of the total endorsed 856 km of Indo-Bangla border fencing in Tripura, a total of 715 km international border has been fenced in the State, according to official sources. Costal Construction Company Ltd and NPCC were assigned with the construction work.

However, but it is to be mentioned here that the construction work of the wire fencing at the unfenced areas of the state likely to be severely hit by this monsoon. Therefore the construction agencies have to virtually stop fencing works due to the hostile conditions.

It is also to be mentioned here that the banned militant outfits has set up camps in Chittagong Hill Tract and has been using the unfenced borders for their trans-border movements.  Still now in the bordering areas the militants are still trying to recruit people by fear, misguiding or by luring. The people are being used to collect money, goods and other necessary things for the militants.
