BG Conversion: Silchar-Lumding Broad Gauge conversion work in slow progress

AGARTALA, April 16 (TIWN): Though slated to be operational from April 1, the journey of passengers’ train on Silchar-Lumding broad gauge railway line has been stalled for indefinite period shattering the dreams of a number of people.

The goods carrying train already started journey before scheduled time and Central Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu made the passengers’ train operational from Delhi. Inspite of that the passengers’ train did not get operational till date.

Besides, the CRS inspection that was supposed to be conducted ahead of the starting of the train has not been possible yet. The BG work is in progress with stack packing and modernized pleasure machine. According to railway sources, CRS inspection is likely to be conducted on April 21.

Suresh Prabhu on March 27 inaugurated the land Silchar-Lumding BG rail stalled mark Lumding-Silchar broad gauge rail line by flagging off a goods train, bringing Assam’s underdeveloped Barak Valley on the broad gauge map. The passenger train services on this route were to start on April 1 that was brought to a halt. Sources said the route is not completely prepared for passenger train.

 BG conversion work in the part from Haflong to Silchar of Silchar-Lumding route is yet not been completed. Monsoon has created a huge problem, added the source. Besides, there have been problems regarding track packing. Track packing is in progress at SukritipurBadarpur section. Apart from track packing, brevetting work is in progress.

Before CRS inspection, there is no possibility of the BG route to get operational in the current month. Allegations were raised over the railway authority over the delay in BG conversion work. It was alleged that there has been no infrastructure for passenger train. Civil works are yet to get complete. The Lumding-Silchar line is a milestone for connectivity in the northeast region and one of the largest gauge conversion projects of Indian Railways.
