AGARTALA / KOLKATA, April 15 (TIWN): To ensure trouble-free elections to the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and in view of the current political turmoil in neighboring country Bangladesh, the Border Security Force (BSF) Jawans along with the state police and other security forces, beefed up along the border areas keeping a strict vigil to restrict any untoward incident at the state, said a highly placed BSF official. He said, "We are keen to hold free, fair and peaceful elections in the TTAADC and also to maintain security along the state's borders to prevent entry of any inimical elements." Border Security Force (BSF) has been beefed up security measures and surveillance at interior border locations in Tripura in view of political unrest in the neighboring country Bangladesh.

Border Security Force personnel on Tuesday seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) with a face value of Rs.8 lakh while being smuggled from Bangladesh into West Bengal's Malda district.

It has been learnt that that the State police and other security agencies are collaborating to tighten up the security along the border especially in areas where extremists of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) have struck.

The seizure was made during a special operation by the 20 battalion of the BSF under Daulatpur border outpost in the district.  "A special anti-FICN team noticed that some Bangladeshi miscreants threw a bag across the Indo-Bangladesh border. But an attempt to collect the bag by Indian miscreants was foiled by the troops," a BSF officer said.
The BSF personnel found Rs.8 lakh in fake notes in the bag. However, both the Bangladeshi and the Indian miscreants managed to flee.

The BSF South Bengal Frontier has so far seized over Rs.84 lakh in FICNs this year.

Beside, the political unrest in Bangladesh and the upcoming TTAADC election here in Tripura has brought the state and its bordering areas under a strict vigil of the border guards. The border patrolling has been increased in the unfenced border areas and some vulnerable spots in the Indo-Bangla border.

The BSF official further mentioned that the NLFT are desperately trying to boost the strength by recruiting new guys ahead of the upcoming TTAADC election which will be held on May 3.
