AGARTALA, April 14 (TIWN): Making an appeal to the deprived REGA workers not to take their law in their hands, opposition leader Sudip Roy Barman on Tuesday condemned the public-police violence at Pecharthal Block that took place on Monday making the Block a battle field in wake of ADC poll.Barman today claimed, “CPI (M) is a great liar and keeping in their old trend has lost their way in wake of the ADC poll.” The statement has come after the CPIM leader Goutam Das on Monday alleged that the opposition has provoked to such violence at Pecharthal.

Barman was speaking to the media persons on Tuesday during the press conference at Agartala Congress Bhawan.

Barman said, “It is not something new that the ruling party always with an aim to grab the power in the state creates terror among the public to vote for them.”

However later Barman supporting the earlier called dawn to dusk strike on April 18 at Pecharthal Block, appealed the public not to take the law in their hand but to keep in protest  in a democratic way.

Barman said, “The state govt. has been fooling the REGA workers since for a long period of time and has gained a momentum on it, while the REGA workers are deprived at large.”

However it is worthy to be mentioned here that hundreds of MGNREGA workers has been witnessed since the last couple of months ransacking the Block Development Officer’s office across the state over irregularity payment of their wages.

With the Pradesh congress on Monday calling for a strike on April 18 at Pachertal Block condemning the violence that took place on Monday between police and public, CPI (M) Spokes Person Goutam Das on Monday claimed that the opposition party had mastermind the incident today at Pachertal Block, where several agitators were lathi charged by the TSRs.

The violence on Monday had come up after the deprived REGA beneficiaries gheraud the BDO in demand of their 6 months pending wages. Several agitators were brutally attacked by the high tempered TSR jawans. The TSR also allegedly open fired on the agitators and left one critically injured.

However, reacting sharply on the incident TPCC President Birajit Sinha called for a strike on April 18 at Pachertal Block. Sinha alleged, “It has been six months that the REGA workers were deprived from their wages.” But, later after the workers gheraud the BDO the TSR jawans managed to attack brutally on the workers and the situation turned violent.
