AGARTALA, April 12 (TIWN): Non-payment of REGA wages again led to road blockade in Gandacherra –Amarpur road. On Sunday morning, workers had created blockade. Due to these unable circumstances, people face disturbances to meet their daily life work. Though Police administration tries to control them, but all their efforts prove to be null and void. Even, the presence of MLA Lalit Mohan Tripura was not enough to deal with the situation. However, Rural Development Minister, Naresh Jamatia earlier vested the entire responsibility of the nonpayment on the shoulders of the Central Government. Minister told that due to the nonavailability of funds, it becomes impossible to meet the end. Despite technical fault EFMS system is also one of the major causes. But still, Mr. Jamatia urged the workers to maintain peace and State Government was trying to apply best possible measures.Earlier, several such incidents were also reported where the deprived and the agitate workers under locked the panchayat officials at the panchayat office protesting against the nonpayment of the wages.

It is to be mentioned that the centrally sponsored MGNREGA scheme is in risk here in rural Tripura with the panchayats across the state delaying the payment of wages to the REGA workers. It sounds weird but appears to be true that though the wages of workers employed under the REGA have been revised on papers but the reality is far from it.

Irregularities in REGA wages under almost every Panchayats of the state are often coming out highlighted where the workers are being deprived at large and often they show a protest infront of the panchayats and have been staging a road blockade often. It is often being reported that the REGA workers after conducting their scheduled works are getting deprived from their payment of wages. And the panchayats are often coming under the limelight and are alleged of not providing the wages in time. Leaving no stone unturned the panchayats have been playing a role of a silent spectator in this regard depriving the workers at large.
