AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 8 (TIWN): Jittered by the developments in the political sphere, the State CPM unit is taking some damage control steps to clean some dirt from their party coat. With the strategic attack made by the leader of the opposi tion in the state assembly Sudip Roy Barman is creating ripples in the entire media circle of the country, Gautam Das, the editor of “Daily Deser Katha” which acts as CPM’s mouthpiece in the state was removed from the post recently. Opposition parties in various occasions had alleged of Gautam ‘s closeness with the Rose Valley Chit Fund company along with other leaders of the state CPM unit.In yet another dramatic devlopment in the ongoing chit fund issue, the Politbureau has summoned Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to Delhi. Sources in the political circle thinks that Mr. Sarkar may be asked to step down from the Chief minister’s post to create an example , which may have wide spread impact in the political arena of the country. The step may be used to compell West Bengal Chief Minister to step down in near future citing her alleged associationship with the chit fund companies.

Meanwhile, state Health and PWD minister Badal Choudhury may be asked to take command of the state cabinet if the political circles are to be believed.

It may be mentioned here that the PWD minister on Saturday last had informed the press that the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was very much aware of  Rose valley’s nature of business since the state Govt. had recieved warnings from SEBI in 1999 about the illegal business of Rosevalley.

The much experienced Badal Choudhury was once the potential candidate for the the chief minister’s post. But overpowered by the other faction within the cabinet, the southpaw was removed from the Finance Minister’s post just to make way for Bhanulal Saha, one of the close associate of Manik Sarkar of late.

According to sources, CM Manik Sarkar is going to New Delhi on wednesday after being asked by the politbureau to attend an urgent meeting at the AK Gopal an Bhavan on wednesday. Manik Sarkar may be asked by the politbureau to step down from the chief minister’s chair to save the party’s image which is deteriorating fast with his so called alliance with chit fund companies.

Meanhile, party workers throughout the state are demoralised with the ongoing media flash about their state supremo’ relationship with the chit fund companies. “ We were very confidant about our leadership so far but the recent development has demoralized us tremendously”, said a party worker who works at the ground level for the party in Agartala.
