AGARTALA, April 7, 2015 (TIWN): Security has been beefed up in the state ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election in the wake of terror threats from banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) which will be held on May 03, said IGP(HGs & Police Control) Nepal Chandra Das.

Taking to TIWN on Tuesday, IGP (HGs & Police Control) Nepal Chandra Das said that special measures adopted to tackle the situation, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Nepal Chandra Das said that all border areas with neighbouring Bangladesh were put under tight vigil. “We have asked BSF authorities to tighten security in the border.

The contingent of CRPF deployed in the state was alerted as well”, he said.

Das further said that the state police had started standard precautionary measures in urban and rural areas. “We have started checking and frisking vehicles in the urban areas. Foot patrols and mobile patrols were increased in the rural areas; focus was laid on distant villages”, he said.

Deployment of security forces have been made at railway stations, motor stands, markets and crowded places, Das added.

A standard alert was sounded across all police stations of the state, the IG informed.

All police stations in Tripura were put on maximum alert and BSF was alerted so that no insurgent could cross the 856 km-long Indo-Bangla international border in Tripura from their hideout in Bangladesh.
