KHOWAI, April 7 (TIWN): Chief Executive Member (CEM) of TTAADC Ranjit Debbarma and Gaura Pada Debbarma of CPI (M) filed their nomination paper for the upcoming Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election in SDM office at Khowai on Monday.

CEM of TTAADC Ranjit Debbarma and Gaura Pada Debbarma along with huge supporters organized a rally. Bikes and cars throng into a large number in the rally.

Taking to TIWN Ranjit Debbarma said that, "The other parties are trying to create trouble by raising a divisive and absurd demand for a separate state. The people will reject it." He said the ADC elections in Tripura have a history of violence. In July 1990, 10 people were killed in election-related violence. "In 2000, the banned NLFT reduced the election to a farce by kidnapping CPM candidates so that they could not file nomination papers. They forced people to vote for their mouthpiece, the IPFT, at gunpoint. We will not allow this to happen again."

Earlier, the election commissioner for Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) issued notification as per provision under subrule (2) of Rule 14 calling upon all the 28 constituencies on April 04.

The election will be held on May 03 and counting will take place on May 06. The term of office of the present Autonomous District Council will expire on May 19. The election commission has decided to use EVMs in the general election to district council in all polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps have taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM’s).

Altogether seven lakh fifty eight thousand five hundred fifty four voters will exercise their franchise in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections.

It is to be mentioned here that Communist party of India (Marxist) state committee has already announced the list of candidates’ name who will be contesting in the 28 assembly constituencies under district council.
