Agartala, April 6 (TIWN): The Assam – Agartala National Highway was opened partially on Monday for movement of stranded vehicles, including trucks carrying essential supplies, to the state. The road had remained closed for five days due to landslips triggered by heavy rain in the region.
It is slowly returning to normalcy. Both goods and passengers carriers have started plying according to report . Goods carrier are allowed to pass in phase manner along the portion of Lowerpoa – Churaibari. As a result long queues of carries are noticed at Churaibari check post. Officials are facing problem in verifying and checking the carriers, lot of time are consumed for issuing entry pass.
“There are more than 500 trucks laden with goods stranded on the highway and the traffic movement is slow due to the bad condition of roads,” SP, Karimganj District, Assam, Bishnu Prasad Rawa told TIWN over telephone.
“There was a spell of heavy rain on last five days , triggering landslips on the national highway all will be normal once the rain stops ,” Mr. Rawa said.
With hundreds of trucks stranded on the highway, several areas in Kashmir were facing acute scarcity of essential goods.Meanwhile, the prices of essential commodities have gone through the roof because of the shortage.
