Let´s celebrate the World Forestry Day on 21st of March; this day commemorates the contribution and value of forests and forestry to the community.
Addressing in the workshop state secretary of Himalaya Paribar Subhash Sarkar said that World Forestry Day has been celebrated around the world for 30 years to remind communities of the importance of forests and the many benefits which we gain from them. The concept of having a World Forestry Day originated at the 23rd General Assembly of the European Confederation of Agriculture in 1971.
Forests are essential for life on Earth. They give us shade and shelter, refuge and refreshment, clean air and water. Today, with a growing global population and subsequent demand for forest products, the forests of the world are at risk from widespread deforestation and degradation, he added.
The survival of the rich generation of flora and fauna in the country is in danger due to exploitation of forests. Chopping down forests in hilly areas results in loosening of soil, thus the upper layer of fertile earth is eroding which is leading to uncontrolled rain and flood. And India is a country which is highly dependable on its agriculture, hence. it becomes even more important for us to protect our forests and prevent them from any ill practices.
