AGARTALA, March 20 (TIWN): Hundreds of Christians along with other protestors of the community today staged a candle light rally across the state to condemn the brutal gang-rape of a nun at Ranghat West Bengal. The protestors today headed by its leaders seek justice to the incident.
The rally today started from the Agartala Vivekanada ground and moved across the capital city Agartala and ended at Circuit House area.
The Agartala Christian community today staging a protest raised slogans demanding justice and arrest of those involved in gang rape of a nun in Kolkata.
The protestors said that individuals in the country were free to choose their faith and it was wrong to accuse the community of forcing conversions. “Attacks on a particular community only reflected a bad image of the country,” they said.
However it is worthy to mention here that in an assault that has shaken the country, the nun was raped by a man who was part of a group of at least six that broke into the Jesus and Mary Convent school at Ranaghat, about 100 km from Kolkata. The men roamed around the school and damaged a bust of Jesus Christ in a chapel before breaking into the nuns' quarters. They locked the nuns were locked up in a room, dragged the 72-year-old nun, who was then raped by one of the men. They later decamped with about Rs. 2 lakh which was in the office cupboard and some valuables from the chapel.
