Agartala, March 17 (TIWN):Water crisis in several areas of Agartala Municipal Corporation has exposed chinks in the armor of Drinking Water and Sanitation Department (DWS) and magnified the Corporation’s under preparedness to deal with the situation.
Little supply to no supply in majority of wards is reeling under severe water crisis as taps ran dry, hand pumps became defunct, a harbinger to the tougher days ahead.
Areas such as ward – 9, ward – 10, ward -15 are facing acute shortage of water while Dhaleswar Ratu road and Ramnagar were the worst affected areas on Sunday.Water supply was badly hit in ward - 11 and adjoining areas on Thursday. The situation did not improve even on Tuesday.
The water supplied in some areas is not even fit for drinking and household works. “Water comes for one or two hours so everybody tries to fill as much water as possible,” said Pradeep Mitra Ramnagar road no – 4.
The AMC is deluded with requests for water supply but the tanker is yet to reach the houses that are overly dependent on external source of supply.The situation has worsened due to defunct hand pumps in many parts especially the neglected areas
Meanwhile, the AMC has prohibited deep boring in the wake of several unauthorized boring going on in many areas and will register FIRs against those violating the injunction.The ban is not applicable to those who will apply for a proper water connection.
