AGARTALA, March 17 (TIWN): Just ahead of Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election here in the state to prevent any untoward incident BSF has intensified vigil along Tripura’s 856-km-long border with Bangladesh. “We have been directed by our higher authorities in Delhi to intensify vigil along the border in the wake of reports that Tripura is being used as a corridor or transit point for entry of fundamentalist and terrorist elements into Indiaâ€, said a high level BSF official.
It is to be mentioned here that India and Bangladesh have agreed to increase cooperation in border management through increased joint patrolling and deployment of troops in unguarded border areas, particularly those facing Tripura and Mizoram. Both the countries also agreed to act against the criminals engaged in human trafficking from Bangladesh to India and other countries.
Earlier, taking to TIWN SP of Gomati Sankar Debnath said that at present we cannot confirm that six NLFT militants entered Chaplin Chara under Karbook subdivision of Gomati district. But we are conducting a search operation in the area and the BSF and district police authorities were asked to maintain strict vigil along the border so that militants could not enter into the Indian soil, he mentioned. Around 400 meters of bordering area are still unfenced and working is going to complete the fencing in the 400 meters unfenced area, SP said.
The insurgents were using the Tripura-Mizoram-Bangladesh tri-junction as corridor, he said security agencies, including the Assam Riffles, have been trying hard to stop infiltration of militants from across the border.
