Tripura’s largest multi–purpose stadium inaugurated by CM

Agartala, Dec 4 (TIWN): Tripura’s largest multi–purpose stadium "Vivekananda Maidan" Stadium was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Sarkar in presence of council of ministers and senior officials.

Before the inauguration, a statue of Swami Vivekananda was unveiled by Chief Minister, besides cultural programme, yoga, physical activities and gymnastic was performed.

It took around three years to complete the stadium; Rs 9 crore was spent for its construction. “The new stadium would be known as Vivekananda Stadium, with sitting capacity around 8000 including a grand stand and press gallery” he said. A permanent open stage ‘Muktha Mancha’ at northern side of the stadium so that it can used for mass gathering for public rallies and fees will be charged from the organizers through Tripura Sports Council. . The area of the inner ground is 7350 sqm.

The sports minister stated that the Dasarath Deb sports complex is handed over to NBCC for contruction. ONGC has donated around Rs 22 crores for upgradation of the sports complex.
