AGARTALA, March 12 (TIWN): AMC mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha today inaugurated the two day long national level seminar organized by sociology department of MBB college on the topic, “Tribal life and forest resource managementâ€. The seminar will continue till March 13.
Addressing in the inaugural ceremony AMC mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha said that Social forestry means the management and protection of forests and afforestation on barren lands with the purpose of helping in the environmental, social and rural development.
Social forestry also aims at raising plantations by the common man so as to meet the growing demand for timber, fuel wood, fodder, etc., thereby reducing the pressure on the traditional forest area. This concept of village forests to meet the needs of the rural people is not new. It has existed through the centuries all over the country but it was now given a new character, he added.
Tripura Central University Chancellor Dr. Anjan Kumar Ghosh, Director Dr. Bipradas Palit and others were present in the inaugural ceremony. Around 120 research persons will be participated in the seminar.
Noted Sociologist Professor A.C. Sinha, and Anthropologist Professor K.K. Basha will also participate in the two day seminar.
