AGARTALA, March 7 (TIWN): The institution of engineers (India) Tripura state centre under the aegis of Textile Engineering Division, IEI has organized a two day 28th national convention of textile engineers’ and national seminar at Agartala Bhagat Singh Youth Hostel today. The seminar was held on technical innovations, design and sustainable product development in handloom and textile industry. Minister Naresh Jamatia today inaugurated the opening session of the programme.
Speaking during the programme today Dr. AK Gupta, IFS, PCCF (T), GOT, said that the reach of manufacturing and other technology driven industries would remain restricted in the state of Tripura owing to geographical bottlenecks. He said that the IGDC Project had decided to give leverage to the traditional industries in the endeavor of generating sustainable livelihood for the shifting cultivating families of Dhalai and North Tripura districts. However the project has identified and explored further points of leverage in these two sectors and trying to bridge the missing links with the techno commercial solutions.
Later, on the sideline of other issue Er. M.K. Deb (MD, Civil Engineering Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd.) said that Tripura has been one of the contributory with a jute manufacturing industry still alive in the state. He said that the importance of the state with respect to having potential to connect international market is blissful and visionary, but needs attention. Tripura is also a state where stones are mergly available and need to borrow from neighbouring country Bangladesh and Assam.
However, the 28th National Convention of Textile Engineers’ and National Seminar organized by the institution of engineers (India) Tripura state centre under the aegis of Textile Engineering Division, IEI will continue till March 8.
