AGARTALA, March 4 (TIWN): A total of 5 persons were reportedly entered into Bangladesh soil carrying no valid documents through Indo-Bangla border at Jaipur area, here today.
According to sources, a strong racket is remained operational for human trafficking along Indo-Bangla international boundary at Jaipur area, keeping the security forces in deep slumber. The sources further added that some of the jawans of security forces are also engaged in human trafficking along Indo-Bangla international boundary at Jaipur area.
Despite a heavy presence of the security forces, crossing the border from India to Bangladesh was very easy. One just needed to be in the local costume and carry Rs.1, 000 to bribe the security personnel to cross the line of control without any identity proof. No wonder, human trafficking and smuggling of cattle and medicines have been rampant in the area, the sources mentioned.
According to a report an estimated 800 000 women and children are trafficked each year across international borders.
