 Policemen attacked during anti-gambling operation

Agartala, February 27 (TIWN): In an anti-gambling operation, police of Julaibari Outpost including Sub Inspector (SI) and ASI were attacked by the villagers at Mahamoni Tilla of Achai Para under Baikhora police station here last night.

Two persons- Afrujai Mag and his son Ashu Mag of Mahamoni Tilla were booked in connection with the attack on on-duty police personnel, said police.

According to police, while a contingent of police of Julaibari Outpost conducted an anti-gambling raid at Mahamoni Tilla of Achai Para last night, the team found a gambling room runs by a widow woman.

After noticing the matter, when the team tried to enter into the room, the widow stopped police and suddenly a vast number of local people including women attacked on police with sharp cutting weapons and sticks.  

As a result, the police personnel including SI Dipu Debbarma and ASI Ching Chanu Mag received minor injuries on their persons and escaped from the place.

A specific case has been registered in this regard and police of Baikhora police station booked two persons in this regard.

It is to be mentioned here; Teer gambling in every corners of Tripura has been growing rapidly. To curb the illegal gambling trade, police are facing tough time while conducting raids in the different parts of the state.
